Lucy Barker

Occupation: Director of Operations, Houses into Homes.

Background: I live in Iowa City with my husband and two daughters (17  & 19 years old). I have an MA in Early Childhood Education and taught preschool until my older daughter was born. I was a stay-at-home mom until I co-founded Houses into Homes with Salina McCarty.

How you got to Iowa City: I came to Iowa City in 2002 when my husband started his fellowship in Infectious Disease, and our older daughter was 7 months old. Our younger daughter was born here at UIHC.

Why you decided to participate in the Welcoming Banner project: I decided to participate in the Welcoming Banner project because it felt like a way Houses into Homes could be part of the Iowa City community, and bring awareness to our organization.

About Houses into Homes: Houses into Homes provides beds, furniture, and household items — almost all gently used and donated — to individuals and families in need in Johnson County. We can always use donations to help us furnish homes for our fellow community members.
